FOO MAPPING THERAPY IN HOUSTON, TEXAS
Family of Origin (FOO) Mapping
Maybe you’ve noticed certain patterns showing up again and again. In relationships, in how you react to stress, or in the way you talk to yourself.
You might feel stuck, frustrated, or confused about why change is so hard, even when you’re trying. That’s where FOO Mapping comes in.
What is FOO Mapping?
Created by Crystal Collier, PhD, LPC-S, FOO Mapping is an 8-week journey designed for people who want to map their family-of-origin patterns that no longer serve them. It is a guided process that I am certified to help you with!
This 8-week journey helps you explore how your early experiences shaped the emotional and behavioral patterns you carry today.
Through guided reflection, psychoeducation, and visual mapping, you’ll begin to understand the “buttons” that get pushed and where they come from, offering clarity, emotional awareness, and new tools for change.
This framework draws from neuroscience and developmental psychology to help you make sense of your past so you can live more intentionally in the present. If you’re ready to understand your story on a deeper level, this work is for you.
Let’s get to the root so you can begin growing!
TEXAS FOO MAPPING ONLINE & IN PERSON
You may be functioning on the outside, but inside, you feel stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand, shutting down, over-functioning, or disconnecting in your relationships.
These patterns likely didn’t start with you. They’re often rooted in the emotional and neurological wiring shaped by your earliest relationships. That’s where FOO Mapping can help.
This is a structured, guided process to help you identify the emotional “buttons” formed in childhood and how they continue to show up in your adult life.
This work is ideal for people who want to go deeper, not just to cope differently, but to understand themselves in a whole new way.

I’ve been trained directly in this model by its creator, Crystal Collier, PhD, LPC-S, and I integrate it with psychodynamic and attachment-based approaches to support lasting insight and change.
FOO Mapping is a truly integrative approach that blends science and story.
What makes this process unique is its depth and structure, we're not just talking about the past, we're mapping it in a way that’s clear, compassionate, and actionable.

This section offers answers to common questions and helpful resources to help you gain insight into the FOO Mapping experience.
-
Rooted in neuroscience, attachment theory, family systems theory, psychosocial development, cognitive behavioral theory, and structural family therapy, FOO Mapping offers a holistic framework for understanding how your earliest relationships shaped your emotional patterns and coping strategies.
It's especially helpful if you:
Struggle with recurring relationship or attachment issues
Feel emotionally reactive or “triggered” in ways you don’t fully understand
Want to break generational patterns or shift long-standing coping strategies
Are doing inner child work, trauma healing, or depth-oriented therapy
Support someone in recovery or are in recovery yourself

Once you purchase the FOO Mapping© workbook, I’ll guide you through the 8-week process step by step. Together, we’ll explore your development across five key age ranges—0–4, 5–8, 9–12, 13–16, and 17–21—known as the “legs” of the journey.
We’ll look at significant events and relational dynamics from each stage, helping you trace how certain emotional and behavioral patterns were formed.
Along the way, we’ll integrate somatic awareness, emotion-focused processing, and insight-driven reflection to identify your unique “FOO buttons”—those deep emotional triggers shaped in childhood.
You’ll leave with a custom, visual map of your own emotional development, new tools for emotional regulation, and a deeper understanding of why certain patterns keep showing up—and how to start shifting them.
This work helps you understand where those reactions come from so you can respond with more clarity, choice, and self-compassion in your adult life.

No, you don’t need the book to start, but I highly recommend it. The workbook offers helpful background information, space for reflection between sessions, and supports the process we’ll go through together. It’s a great companion that deepens the work and keeps you engaged throughout the journey.
-
Yes, FOO Mapping can absolutely be done virtually. However, I recommend coming in person for the first session if possible—it helps us build a stronger connection and allows you to settle into the process more fully. Many clients also find the experience deeper and more grounded when done in person.
-
After the 8-week journey, we can continue with ongoing individual therapy if you'd like to go deeper or build on what you’ve uncovered. If you already have a primary therapist, we can also transition you back to their care with new insight, tools, and a completed FOO map to guide your continued growth.
-
If you’re in recovery, it’s best to have at least six months of sobriety or stable recovery before starting FOO Mapping. The process can bring up deep emotional material, and having a solid foundation helps ensure that you’re resourced and supported enough to engage with the work in a safe, meaningful way.
